Dr. Imad E. Shami is dual board certified oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and Craniofacial Surgeon. He is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. After completion of his rigorous training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, he completed two very competitive fellowships - one in Craniomaxillofacial Surgery under the world renowned Craniofacial Surgeon, Dr. Bruce Horswell, and another in Orthognathic and Facial Aesthetic Surgery under world renowned Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Jeffery Posnick. There are only a few oral and maxillofacial surgeons who are selected for these fellowships from all over the United States. There are even fewer oral and maxillofacial surgeons in the US with Dr. Shami's training; they could only be counted one hand if they even exist.
Dr. Shami completed his dental education at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio and his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Afterwards, he completed his fellowship in Craniomaxillofacial Surgery at West Virginia University/Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, West Virginia. He then completed another fellowship in Orthognathic and Facial Aesthetic Surgery at Posnick Center for Facial Plastic Surgery in Chevy Chase, Maryland and Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.

Dr. Shami is on staff at several hospitals. He is on a Facial Trauma Team at Inova Fairfax Hospital - a level I trauma hospital - where he treats patients with complex facial trauma and complex Oral and Maxillofacial problems.

Dr. Shami's interest in the dental office includes dental extractions, impacted wisdom teeth, surgical management of impacted teeth for orthodontic treatment purposes and dental implants. He also practices outside of the hospital where he does complex facial trauma, orthognathic surgery, surgical management of obstructive sleep apnea, Oral/Facial Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. He goes on international volunteer surgical missions where he does complex craniofacial and maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Shami is fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, The American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and The American Dental Board of Dental Anesthesiology. He is also a member of the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association, The American Academy of Implant Dentistry and the Virginia Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Dr. Shami's treatment philosophy is to treat every patient the same way he would treat any of his own family members.
